Minutes from September 5, 2007 Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m.
IN ATTENDANCE: Melissa Bachetti, Viv LaBerge, Tammy MacDonald,
Vicki MacDonald, Beverly Becker, Rosemary Keilty, Amy Dodge, Jessica
McCarthy, Leigh Ann Merrill, Nikki Shippa
SECRETARY'S REPORT: Minutes from September 5, 2007 meeting
were read and accepted.

School started yesterday! All of the teachers wore
blue and white and met the buses in the circle in the morning.

There is a new security system in place. All of
the outside doors will be closed and locked. Cameras have been installed
at the main entrance. Visitors will need to be buzzed in during
the school day. This seems to be working well.

There is interest from CPTV to film our school pertaining
to our wellness plan. The school is in the process of obtaining
grant money to do the filming. Judy Mead is still very involved
in this project.
MEETING DATE/TIME - After discussion, it was
decided to keep the meeting time at 7:00 p.m. for the October meeting
and then discuss and make a final decision at that meeting about future
meeting times.
RAILROAD DAYS SNO-CONE SALE - Nikki Shippa
reported that there was a profit of $484.25. She stated that much
thanks belongs to Tyler Pilch and Mitchell Blass for their help.
WRAPPING PAPER SALE - Tammy MacDonald reported
that she has the flyers but they need to be placed into envelopes.
It was agreed upon that the sale will begin on September 12th and
will end on Friday, October 5th.
FAMILY ORGANIZER FUNDRAISER - It was reported
that there are still 11 organizers available for purchase.
TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION BREAKFAST - It was
very successful. Teachers enjoyed themselves. However, there was little
help at the breakfast.
END OF THE YEAR DINNER - There was a small
attendance. It was reported that the teachers would like to have the
dinner at a restaurant where they can sit and talk. It was suggested
that maybe the end of June is too hectic of a time and that earlier
in the year would be better.
VICE PRESIDENT NOMINATION - Nikki Shippa received
a letter of resignation from Debbie Carroll, the elected Vice President
for this school year. The letter of resignation was read and accepted.
A motion was made by [Viv LaBerge/Tammy MacDonald] to send Debbie
flowers as a thank you for her dedication to our organization. The
motion was unanimously accepted. Tammy MacDonald volunteered to take
care of the arrangements. A nomination [Tammy MacDonald/Leigh Ann
Merrill] of Jessica McCarthy to the position was made. Election on
this position will take place at the October meeting.
STEERING COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS - The vice president
will the chairperson of the Steering Committee. The following individuals
have been nominated to this committee: Leigh Ann Merrill, Amy Dodge,
Vicki MacDonald, and Viv LaBerge. Voting on the Steering Committee
will take place at the October meeting.
COMMITTEES - The sign up sheets for various
committees was passed around.
TEACHER'S WISH LIST - Nikki Shippa offered
to make a flyer and distribute to the teachers.
STUDENT DIRECTORY - Vicki MacDonald volunteered
to create the student directory from the information provided by the
office.
OPEN HOUSE - Open House will be September 20th
from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The PTO will set up a booth in the lobby and
sell organizers and Notes to School pads. The Notes to School pads
will sell for $2.00 each. Tammy MacDonald, Amy Dodge, Vicki MacDonald,
and Jessica McCarthy offered to bake.
AMERICAN LUNCH ASSOSSCIATION - BREATH EXPRESS
- Nikki Shippa was approached by the school nurse seeking a donation
and volunteers for the September 14th Breath Express. Amy Dodge volunteered
to help from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The breath express is an assembly
for middle school students to encourage students to not smoke. A motion
was made [Leigh Ann Merrill/Viv LaBerge] to donate $100.00 to the
Breath Express. Motion was unanimously accepted.
BOXTOPS - Tammy MacDonald reported that she
still has about 10,000 Boxtops that need to be trimmed, counted, and
sent in. Leigh Ann Merrill offered to help her. Nikki Shippa is gathering
ideas for how to obtain and run the Boxtop competition this year.
ORIGINAL WORKS FUNDRAISER - Nikki Shippa was
approached by a company that has students make an original piece of
artwork that families can purchase in many different forms. Discussion
on this fundraiser will be held at a later date. A representative
from the company will be at the regional PTO meeting.
MAGIC SHOW FUNDRAISER - Nikki Shippa brought
up the idea of having a magic show for the students as a fundraiser.
After discussion, it was decided to sponsor the magic show with free
admission for everyone. Nikki will contact the magician in hopes of
scheduling him for Friday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
REGION ONE PTO MEETING - This meeting will
be next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the NCES cafeteria. Tammy MacDonald
has volunteered to get bakers for the event.
WEBSITE - Nikki Shippa reported that she would
like to update the website and include the officer's e-mail addresses.
CONDO RAFFLE - Viv LaBerge inquired whether
or not the PTO would be interested in doing the raffle this year.
After discussion, it was decided that we would table the decision
for now and come up with new fundraisers.
ANNUAL CALENDAR - Nikki Shippa would like to
have an annual calendar to help plan meetings. Melissa Bachetti reported
that one was made last year and that she would get it to Nikki.
TEACHER SUPPORT - Members of the PTO expressed
an interest in having more teachers attend PTO meetings. Nikki Shippa
has offered to go to a faculty meeting and let the teachers know what
are some of the events happening in the near future and to invite
them to come to meetings.
