Minutes from May 7, 2008 Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m. ATTENDANCE: Melissa Bachetti, Leigh Ann Merrill, Jessica McCarthy, Viv LaBerge, Nikki Blass, Rosemary Keilty, Tammy MacDonald, Amy Dodge, Marilisa Camardi SECRETARY'S REPORT: Minutes were read and accepted. CORRESPONDENCE: A thank you note was received from the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce for our participation at the trade festival. Thank you notes were received from Claire Walton and Jean Anderson for the teacher appreciation breakfast. TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was read and accepted.
PRINCIPAL'S REPORT: Rosemary Keilty reported the following:
NOTEBOOK COMMITTEE: Viv passed out forms to be filled out by the next meeting. FLOWER SALE COMMITTEE: There are 40 flats of 15, which is 600 plants. Jessica will work the sale on Friday and Judy Blass will sell on Thursday. Each teacher will get a flower for teacher appreciation week. The cost of each plant was .50 cents. Next year Theresa will charge us .75 cents a plant. We will sell the plants this year for $1.00. BOX TOP COMMITTEE: A check for $557.13 was received. Individual drawing will be at the June award's assembly. The class deadline will be June 1st. The money earned will be placed in the 8th grade fund. Marlisa will also look into Campbell soup labels and if they are a good idea or not. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Jess reported that a letter seeking donations went home to the family list and to some businesses. She also talked to the high school guidance counselors and they will put the application in the scholarship book. Deadline is May 15th. We have received some applications. Set deadlines for next year for collecting funds, applications, and making a decision. Jess will check with the high school about the award's assembly. NOMINATION COMMITTEE: Viv passed out the nomination list. After discussion, Tammy MacDonald volunteered to be secretary. Melissa Bachetti declined her nomination for vice president. Viv will post the new ballot in the PTO case. Leigh Ann and Amy volunteered to help count votes at the June meeting.
OLD BUSINESS TEACHER WISH LIST: One wish was accepted. BINGO: Profited about $1100. We discussed maybe moving it to a Saturday or another day of the week and time to attract more people. It was decided that a $50.00 donation be made to the fire company as a thank you for using the bingo machine. CLOTHING DRIVE: A check has been received for $789.26. We could do it again in September. They will not do it on a Saturday but they could come on a Sunday. They sent us a flyer with all of the information about what we collected. END OF THE YEAR DINNER: It will be Thursday, May 29th at the Canaan Country Club. Crudites will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A homestyle buffet dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Nikki gave a $50 deposit. The cost will be $40 including tax and tip. Nikki suggested that the PTO pay $5.00 per person to make the cost $35.00 per person. All members were in favor. Nikki is also getting door prizes. GAME NIGHT: It will be May 21st. It will be a no homework night. Set up will be at 5:00 p.m. The game night will go from 6-8. Pizza, refreshments and games will be available for purchase. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: It was reported that it was absolutely wonderful. Nikki suggested the PTO send Melanie Cullerton a $100 donation for spending her entire day giving chair massages. All members were in favor. MY TEACHER ROCKS: Tammy will talk to Dolores and get out a flyer with a deadline. Tammy, Jess and Amy volunteered to be on this committee. SCHOOL SIGN (BRICK FUNDRAISER): For the base of the sign Nikki had the idea of selling bricks. Jess will ask her husband for the name of some people who do masonry work. All members were in favor of proceeding with this fundraiser. SCHOOL BUS TAGS: Feedback from teachers was that pre-k, kindergarten and grade 1 would like them. All members were in favor of purchasing 100 tags for $200. NEW BUSINESS
GIFTS FOR EMPLOYEES: After discussion it was decided that since the staff was included in teacher appreciation week that it was not necessary to give them gift certificates this year. All members were in favor of giving Dena Solan a $50.00 gift certificate to the Canaan Country Club for all of her dedication to our school.
