Minutes from February 6, 2008 Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m.
ATTENDANCE: Melissa Bachetti, Renee Slonaker, Rosemary Keilty,
Nikki Blass, Viv LaBerge
Jessica McCarthy, Amy Dodge, Tammy MacDonald, Marilisa Camardi
SECRETARY'S REPORT: Minutes were read and accepted.
CORRESPONDENCE:
- Lunch invitation to a fundraising solutions event at the Aquaturf
on three different dates.
- Thank you note from Pat Palmer for assistance with the Weatherbug
and an update.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was read and accepted.
- There have been additional apparel sales for an additional profit
of $81.
- Also received an additional $40 from shopping night

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT: Miss Keilty reported the following:
- Offer an abbreviated ski club and has an offer of scholarship money
available from the Salisbury Winter Association
- Regional Band and Chorus practice and concerts are occurring.
- Gearing up for mastery tests
- The senior citizen breakfast will happen later in the spring.
- The 2nd grade may go to Geer to perform the square dances they have
been working on.
- The Northwest Chamber Read Aloud Day was today. It went well. There
were a lot of businesses represented and it is great for the community
to see what we do here at school.
- The track meet will be May 16th and a rain date of May 19th.
OLD BUSINESS
- TEACHER WISH LIST - This month's wishes were read and accepted.
- BINGO - Will be Friday, April 18th. A committee needs to
be formed and get donations. We have one volunteer that will help
out who signed up on the two hour pledge sheet. Nikki will ask the
fire company to borrow their equipment. Leigh Ann will notify the
church of our event. Nikki has the state paperwork to be filled out.
Nikki and Tammy MacDonald will be co-chairs.
- CLOTHING DRIVE - We will collect items from April 14th to
the 19th. There will be an all day drive on the 19th from 10 to 5.
There will be a trailer at or near the school for the items. Renee
Slonaker and Tammy MacDonald volunteered to look into finding a trailer.
- SENIOR CITIZEN BREAKFAST - Moved to the spring. Nikki suggested
that the wording of the invitation be changed to explain that it is
not just for senior citizens but also grandparents.
- BOXTOP - Marilisa Camardi reported that we have made close
to $450 in Boxtops. Lisa Bousquet will be called to get the Boxtops
she has cut. There is a sweepstakes called "I Love My School".
It was suggested that a flyer go home about using the Marketplace
to make purchases online for additional earnings. Marilisa will create
a flyer that Melissa Bachetti will get approved and copied.
- LOWE'S GRANT - Viv LaBerge has a lot of questions about the
grant and the information wanted on the application. She stated that
they needed information about the school population, ethnicity, free
or reduced lunch numbers and it is due on February 15th. After discussion,
it was decided to not complete the grant. Nikki will talk to Doug
Humes about the town helping us to put one on the main road. Marilisa
will bring up this topic at the next Recreation Commission meeting.
This idea will be tabled until next month and maybe we can a fundraiser
to offset the cost.
- STUDENT DIRECTORY - Nikki Blass made a motion to provide
Joe O'Connor and Andy Murphy with a $25 gift certificate to a local
business as a thank you for printing the directory [Viv LaBerge, Amy
Dodge]. All members were in favor. Viv LaBerge also volunteered to
chair this committee next and to fix the directory to include parent
names correctly.
NEW BUSINESS
- NEW YORK CITY TRIP - Renee Slonaker requested at $205 donation
from the PTO to pay for the tour of Grand Central Station. A motion
was made [Viv LaBerge, Tammy MacDonald]. All members were in favor.
- WRAPPING PAPER FUNDRAISER - Tammy MacDonald reported that
Phil Pane would like to come to our next meeting and present the 2008
catalog. All members agreed.
- 4TH GRADE ARTS DAY - A letter was received from Nancy Soper
asking the PTO for a donation to Arts day. A motion was made [Viv
LaBerge/Amy Dodge] to donate $400. All members were in favor.
- PTO CONFERENCE - Nikki will be attending a PTO conference
in Boston. The cost is $10.00. It is on March 19th from 9 to 3. Information
is available on the PTO Today website.
- DRAMA CLUB - Nikki stated that the drama club is seeking
a donation to help offset the cost of costumes. A motion was made
[Viv LaBerge/Marilisa Camardi] to approve up to $300. All members
were in favor.
- YEARBOOK - A letter was received from Linda Creedon seeking
a donation to help offset the cost of the yearbook. After discussion,
a motion was made [Amy Dodge/Viv LaBerge] to donate $300 towards the
yearbook. All members were in favor.
- FACULTY MEETING - Nikki attend the last faculty meeting and
shared what the PTO has done so far this year and what we are planning
on doing.
OTHER DISCUSSION
- A discussion was held about moving money from the checking account
into a CD or savings account so that it could earn interest. This
will be tabled until the next meeting.
- A reminder was made to bring up the creative artwork fundraiser
idea at a future meeting.
- A discussion was held about parent concerns about not being informed
when children visit the school nurse.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
