2007 - 2008 Goals

1. To continue the process of reviewing and revising Board of Education policies by:

  1. including policy review as a monthly agenda item except during the budget process. (September, October, May, & June)
  2. establish a benchmark to complete the review of (4000) series.
  • Four (4) policies need to complete 4000 series.
  • Streamline-Alternate with presentations

2. Support the Building Committee by:

  1. including a building committee written report as a monthly agenda item.
  2. attending public meetings relative to the building project.
  3. assist the building committee in publicizing and promoting the building project.
  4. committee will meet in the fall to develop a presentation to the public.
  5. filing paperwork / referendum spring 2008.
  6. attending presentation to community.

3. Implement Action Plans pertaining to the WELLNESS POLICY by:

  1. including updates of the WELLNESS Committee in the principal's report.
  2. giving budget impact of WELLNESS related initiatives a high priority.
  3. participating in Healthy Child Alliance initiatives.
  4. creating a separate line item in budget.
  5. supporting 85210 student engagement.

4. To Gain an understanding of instructional programs by:

  1. inviting teachers to present at Board meetings topics such as: Nature's Classroom, Understanding by Design, Professional Learning Communities and middle school initiatives. (Invite with time of 20 minutes & questions). (November, December, & January)
  2. initiating a program review by the Principal and Assistant Superintendent in identified areas of concern resulting from 2007 CMT results. Challenging students with rigorous curriculum needs to be reviewed as well. The review would include the development of a school improvement plan that will be based on data and student needs. Further, discipline policy and discipline program will be studied to maximize student instructional time.
  3. providing feedback from students regarding school days.

5. Institute a process of on-going professional development for the Board of Education by:

  1. creating a set of orientation material for new Board members. Include a "training" component as a monthly agenda item, i.e., Nutmeg Board scenarios.
  2. attending CABE and other board of education type conferences.
  3. conducting annual self-review of Board effectiveness.
