North Canaan Elementary School
Arbor Day 2006

This year's Arbor Day tree was planted in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of North Canaan Elementary School. It is a Valley Forge American Elm.

Students in the fifth grade wrote poems in celebration of Arbor Day on April 21, 2006.

Me The Tree

Me the tree standing up so tall,
providing shade for one and all,
doing my job so perfectly,
but no one dares to look at me,
for I am only a tree.

Me the tree the shelter from rain,
me the tree outside your windowpane,
me the tree standing straight and tall,
doing my job for one and all.

I wonder...

I wonder if a tree ever gets bored standing all day long?
I wonder if a tree wants to listen to a bird sing a beautiful song?
I wonder if a tree just wants to live and play?
I wonder if a tree wants to relax and sway?
I wonder if a tree just wants to move around and have fun?
I wonder if a tree wants to run?
I wonder if trees like having little kids climbing it?
I wonder if a tree ever wants to dance a bit?
I wonder... I wonder...

Trees

The trees in the woods,
make me smile,
their fruit falls in growing piles,
like chickens laying eggs,
A trees roots look like its legs,
birds chirp above all the while,
People love their style,
their branches sway in the breeze,
Their leaves make us sneeze,
buds are blooming all over,
Under them is growing clover,
grass is also growing,
the bright orange sun is glowing,
knowing these trees are helping me,
On a dark day,
I am happy.....

Bonsai

Bonsai trees are like he little wonders of the earth.

Bonsai is as small as a gnome.

Bonsai can be as camouflaged as a robber but can also stick out like a clown.

Bonsai is calming, peaceful.

Bonsai trees are like the little wonders of the earth.

Bonsai is an exquisite as a king and as proud as a knight.

Bonsai's are as mighty as a bull nut is as moderate as a butterfly.

Bonsai's have a substantial heart and an even larger soul.

Bonsai trees are like the little wonders of the earth.

My Tree

I have a tree,
my tree is a giving tree,
in fall I get apples,
in winter I get animal visitors,
in spring I play in may tree fort,
in summer I get shade,
my tree is a place to hang out
my tree is a place for fun,
when I need to be alone I can hide in my tree,
when I feel sad or lonely my tree is there for me,
my tree is my friend,
my tree is my own ,
I love my tree,
my tree is as giving as a mother is to their child,
I keep my tree happy and alive so...
That's why my tree gives to me!

Don't cut me Down

Don't cut me down!
I have good reasons
See me in the springtime season
Beautiful flowers cover me
Oh no, Oh no
Why can't you see?
You will regret
my juicy apples
you'll miss, I bet.
What will the squirrel say
when his home is gone?
You must know what you're doing's wrong
And what of the shade
that I have made?
So, now, human
can't you see
that you just can't
cut down me!
You still will?
Oh, god
Oh, dear
Just wait 'til my lawyer gets here!

My Favorite Tree

My tree, my tree
What it means to me,
It's pines and trunk and seven vines,
It smells of pine at Christmas time,
Yes, my pine tree, yes it's fine.
I sit and climb up in this tree,
So far up and what I see,
In this old, odd piney tree,
Bark, fungus, pine, needles and wild cucumbers.
In the front yard is where it sits,
Never puts me in the pits,
My best friend,
We never argue,
Just because it has no face to talk to.
Under this tree is fallen pines and pine cones,
Where they sit and never go.
My tree, my tree
That's what it means to me.

My Very Important Tree

There is a tree that is very important to me,
With silky red leaves that cover me,
The only friend that doesn't make me cry and it waves goodbye,
It cares and shares like nobody else,
I sit on its branches as my hair blows in the air,
It's seen me grow up since one,
Oh what the fun!
It still stands today with nothing in its way,
It stands in the yard ,
Too bad it can't play cards,
It will never go till its time for it to say good-bye.
That tree is a red maple ,
Too bad we can't put its sap on the table,
This is the tree that is very important to me.
